SUNRISE – ILLUSTRATION

2017 – The addition of the beach here is missing from the original template for the painting in the Sunrise ink design. Working alone, I might have left out this detail altogether, but the beach was something that the client specifically wanted me to add and include.
Painting is a solitary activity which reminds me of Alan Sillitoe’s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. There’s often no one to monitor your performance except yourself. Sometimes in the unrelenting slog of it all, you wonder for what and for whom you are doing it, but most of all, why?
