SPEED BOAT – ILLUSTRATION

14 X 28 cm

2017 – For the first time using gouache I was pleased with the feel and response of the paint. It’s pasty enough and the application is not entirely unlike oil. It dries quickly, but re-application can take out minor errors. It was a good medium with which to provide a mock-up of the painting.

As an illustrating tool I like gouache as it gives a sufficiently finished and “painterly” look to a picture. That said, I used pen in this work to enhance detail such as the railings. It’s in that sense more mixed-media but the gouache, of course, predominates.
