RABBIT DRAWING
42 x 30 cm
“Many sketches . . . and sketching. Oil is taking the form. Slowly. Things begin to emerge from the painting. Maybe I’m beginning to . . . snare the beast.” Art Diary – Rabbit – 28th May 1998.
It’s still some way off as it will be just over another year before the painting gets to be completed. The emphasis here is on revision and refining. In this sketch, colour moves the work forward which will inform how the painting looks and feels. The focus is on composition, colour, tone and contrast and not on technique. Compare the rabbit in this colour drawing with the rabbit head on the finished one.
There is a blank section which remains unfinished but by this point I had enough information to get back to putting paint on the canvas.
