ARCHIVE [1988 – 2000]

On the last page you visited, it was warm, bright and sunny and I would have been in shorts and T-shirt. Here, I’m wrapped up but still freezing. It’s dark and it rains all the time.

It wasn’t until I built this website that I got to see in one glance the contrast been the two bodies of work. And how ‘place’ – and its geography – can have such a big influence on the person and their art as they have had on me.

It took 17 years of no artistic activity for me to come back and in T. S. Eliot’s words “know the place for the first time”.

I ceased painting in London in 2000. When I began painting again it was 2017 and I was in the south of France on the Mediterranean coast.
